Coaches
Coaches play a vital role in the success of SYHA both on the ice and off. SYHA cannot thank anyone interested in coaching enough for their time commitment and dedication to the club.
Coaches are screened through USA Hockey and WAHA to ensure they have completed the educational and player safety requirements. The process to become a coach is outlined below.
Coaches Committee
The Coaches Committee is comprised of one club member from each age level from the prior season. They develop and recommend our association coaching policy, conduct interviews for assigning coaches, and will act as a grievance committee to handle difficulties that arise with team selection.
The Director of Hockey is the Chair of the Coaches Committee.
The Coaches Committee shall at the earliest date possible meet and then present the names and qualifications of potential head coaches to the Board for approval. Because the club often times utilizes parent head coaches, the final disposition of head coaches may not be known until try-outs and team selection.
All head-coaching candidates should be made aware that final placements might be based on the outcome of team selections. The coaching committee will make appointments to head coaching positions immediately following team selections.
These appointments, given that the Board initially approved the candidate, constitute the authority to coach that team pending the final approval by the Board.
Volunteering to Coach
The online age specific modules are designed to provide you more age-specific information on how to best develop your player's athletic potential. This will foster a fun learning experience for both you and the youth players under your guidance. Please allow 15-20 hours to complete.
Proof of completion of the above requirements should be emailed to SYHA Director of Hockey at Diretor@stoughtonhockey.com
